About Basecamp Research:

Basecamp Research is a London-based biotechnology company. We explore the most exciting, diverse, and extreme environments on our planet and sample these environments for microbial sequences (metagenomics). We negotiate benefit-sharing agreements with the localities we go to, ensuring that our data is collected ethically and sustainably. Our in-house metagenomics & ML cloud pipeline generates taxonomic, genomic, and protein annotations that we embed into our knowledge graph together with geographic, geochemical, and environmental metadata. From our knowledge graph, we then design AI-guided protein and genomics solutions for our customers across the Bioindustry.

About the role:

The Product Bioinformatician will work closely with the Data and Commercial teams on customer delivery and product design projects with a special focus on genome editing & genomics solutions. Key responsibilities will include the expansion of our computational approaches and workflows in this field, and overseeing customer panel selection. Furthermore, the successful candidate will interact with research partners to discuss experimental designs & outcomes.

Requirements:

  • A relevant university-level degree in the Life Sciences or adjacent field

  • Experience working in industry in a relevant product-orientated role

  • Excellent understanding of genome editing and CRISPR biology, with experience using bioinformatic tools for annotation and curation of these

  • A proven track record for the analysis, interpretation, and visualisation of genomic and NGS data

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with interdisciplinary teams

  • Experience in cloud environments (AWS preferred), Bash, and Python


Additional skills (desired but not required):

  • Experience with graph databases / neo4j / cypher
  • Understanding of metagenomics and bioinformatic approaches applied to metagenomic datasets
  • Understanding of and experienced with machine learning methods applied to protein sequences & structures
  • Experience with Agile systems
