Computational Protein Design Scientist

At Basecamp Research we're looking for a Computational Protein Design Scientist to join our team.
Full-time · Boston, US

About us

Basecamp Research is a well-funded, fast-growing startup with a diverse, multidisciplinary team. We are sitting on a treasure trove of genomics and protein data, much of which remains untapped. This position will be part of our Computational Biology team, which works closely with teammates in genomics, data engineering, and deep learning within a larger Data Science group. We offer a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge metagenomics data to help discover and design the next generation of gene-editing systems.

About the role

We are seeking an innovative and collaborative Computational Protein Design Scientist to support the discovery and design of novel gene-editing systems. In this role, you’ll apply bioinformatics and machine learning to protein design, leveraging our extensive datasets. Experience in gene editing is a plus, but not required. This role will be based in our new office in the Boston area.

Main responsibilities

  • Implement and apply modern deep learning methods to achieve protein design objectives.

  • Assess and benchmark AI/ML models for performance on protein design tasks.

  • Collaborate with the Genomics team to identify new systems by annotating and mining rich metagenomics data.

  • Partner with the Wet Lab team to validate hypotheses experimentally and conduct data analysis.

  • Communicate findings effectively through presentations, scientific writing, and data visualizations.

Required skills and qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Structural Biology, Biophysics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in programming or scripting, preferably in Python.

  • Experience in modeling protein sequence, structure, and function data.

  • Demonstrated track record of scientific publications related to protein modeling and design.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Relevant industry experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with gene-editing systems is a plus.

  • Experience with modeling protein-nucleic acid and/or protein-protein interactions is preferred.

What we can offer you in return:

  • The opportunity to be a key early member in our team in an exciting, dynamic, and fast-moving field.

  • A network of top tier advisors and academic partners.

  • Comprehensive medical plans and 401K.

  • Competitive compensation package including equity.
